Hardwood vs. Luxury Vinyl: What Should I Choose? | ASK KEN

Choosing Between Hardwood and LVT

ASK KEN - EP. 13:

With more and more wood-look products available, why should I choose hardwood or LVT for my home?

Ken's Quick Answer:

"If you're concerned by little scuffs and scratches on your floor, go with LVT. If you don't care about those little marks, feel free to choose hardwood."

Ken's In-Depth Answer:

"A lot of customers who come in haven't heard of luxury vinyl plank, or LVT, but it's becoming one of the hottest products on the market. It looks almost exactly like wood. With that in mind, what are some of the reasons to choose either LVT or hardwood for your home?

When I talk to prospective clients, I want to determine what kind of customer they're going to be. There are two kinds of people who buy wood floors. There are people who are really bothered by scratches, dents, gouges, and scuffs—and there are people who don't care.

If you're in the former category, my advice to you is don't buy a wood floor. Regardless of what you hear about some species being harder than others, or certain floors that have incredible guarantees, all wood gets scratches and scrapes. If those marks are going to bother you, consider LVT flooring.

LVT wood-look floors have made tremendous progress. They're waterproof, they don't show wear and tear as much, and they're great for an active household with kids and pets. Think hard about what your expectations are for your floor, and we'll help you make the right decision.
