For a lot of homes, engineered wood is the more practical choice. It handles humidity swings with less movement and works in more places, including over concrete and basements. Solid hardwood is still great in the right room. Tell us about your space and we will steer you correctly.
Provenza, Mannington, Lauzon, Canopy, Panaget, Fabrica, Hallmark, and Jasmine, among others. Ken particularly likes Canadian mills such as Lauzon for their milling quality.
Dry, heated winter air pulls moisture out of the wood, which can cause seasonal gaps or cracking. Keeping indoor humidity around 30 to 50 percent and temperature around 60 to 80 degrees goes a long way. Some seasonal movement is normal and expected with real wood.
Not with the right prep. A floating hardwood floor needs a quality underlayment, and a proper subfloor and installation prevent the crunchy, hollow sound. This is exactly the kind of detail an experienced installer gets right.
Yes, with a little care. Wipe up spills promptly, use rugs or runners in high-traffic spots, and mind standing water. If water is a real concern, engineered wood or luxury vinyl plank may be a better fit, and we carry those too.
Less is more. Skip wet mops, vinegar, and soapy cleaners, which use too much water. Use a microfiber pad and the manufacturer's recommended cleaner. Swiffer WetJet Wood is NWFA-approved for a reason.
Yes. All wood shifts color with light and age, and that is normal. Staining helps, but plan for some change. Moving rugs occasionally helps avoid uneven fading.
Often, yes. Today's pre-finished hardwoods match traditional oak strip floors far more elegantly than they used to. Bring photos or a sample to the showroom and we will advise you honestly.
Sometimes, but be careful. Electric heat mats used under floating floors can void warranties and warp planks. Tell us your setup and we will point you to a safe option.
