Island Carpet Tile & Hardwoods: Exotic Hardwood Floors

Tired of Oak and Maple? Consider Exotic Hardwoods Again.

Brazilian cherry, walnut, Tigerwood, golden teak, and more are back. Richer tones, bolder grain, and a very different feel from the oak and maple samples most people have already seen.

Ken on Tigerwood, Brazilian Walnut, Teak, and More

Ken walks through the exotic hardwood species now available and explains why they are worth considering if you are tired of oak and maple.

Why Exotic Hardwood Changes the Room So Quickly

Oak and maple are popular for good reason. They are familiar, versatile, and easy to place in a wide range of homes. But sometimes familiar is the problem. If every sample feels a little too expected, changing the species can do more than changing the stain.

Exotic hardwoods bring their own natural character. Brazilian Walnut runs from deep chocolate to olive. Tigerwood has bold striping unlike any domestic species. Teak brings a warm golden direction that deepens over time. These are not quiet background floors. They have presence.

That does not mean they belong in every room. A floor with this much movement needs to work with the furniture, light, trim, cabinetry, and overall style of the home.

The large room scenes give you a real sense of how much color variation and richness these floors carry across a full space.

Why Seeing These in Person Matters

Exotic hardwoods are harder to evaluate on a screen than domestic species. The depth of the color, the scale of the grain, and the way light moves across the floor all compress badly in a product photo.

When you visit our showroom, we can put Brazilian walnut, Tigerwood, teak, and other exotic species next to oak and maple options in similar tones. Most people find that comparison answers their questions quickly. The difference is usually more obvious in person than they expected.

Color from the wood, not the stain
Exotic species bring natural color variation that domestic hardwoods rarely match. The richness comes from the wood itself, not from how it was finished.
Species you will not find most places
Brazilian cherry, walnut, Tigerwood, and golden teak are not standard showroom inventory. They are worth seeing in person before you decide they are not for you.
Easier to judge in the showroom
Exotic grain and color variation compress badly in photos. Seeing samples next to your other finish choices is the fastest way to know whether they fit the room.
